Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am currently self-pay only and don’t take insurance at this time. I can, however, provide you with a superbill (fancy receipt) for you to seek possible reimbursement from your insurance company. Many insurance plans do allow reimbursement for out of network care, but you should contact your insurance company directly to know for sure.

Due to the hardships that insurance companies impose on clinicians, I don’t plan on changing my billing practices any time soon unless major shifts happen in the private insurance world. In the meantime, I will continue to advocate (loudly!) for change!

  • An intensive can mean a lot of things, but generally speaking, it’s any session that is longer than the traditional 50-60 minute therapy session. Intensives allow us to get to the “meat and potatoes” faster, and allow us to dig deeper than we typically would be able to in a shorter session.

  • Talking to your friends about your problems is great for some people! After all, isn’t that what friends are for? However, some of the problems that we might face aren’t always the best fit for friend complaining sessions. A trained therapist not only knows how to listen attentively, but also knows what to do with the content you’re giving them. They know ways to help you heal and move forward that aren’t always available from our friends.
